The execution is scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood, Texas, marking the first US military firing squad execution since 1945.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the public nature of the event, stating, "We'll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it's public." President Donald Trump approved the execution, remarking that Hasan deserves it for killing and wounding many people. Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, opened fire on November 5, 2009, inside a medical building at Fort Hood, killing 13 people and wounding 32 others.

He shouted "Allahu Akbar" and later confessed the shooting was intended to halt US forces from entering Afghanistan and killing fellow Muslims. The UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights condemned the livestreaming, stating it is tantamount to a public execution and would breach the absolute prohibition of torture. Archbishop Paul Coakley, president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, called it a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered.

Alonzo Lunsford, a Fort Hood survivor shot seven times, supports the execution but expressed reservations about uncensored public viewing, stating, "To show the whole thing without it being censored for the general public, for me personally, I don’t agree with that." Lunsford plans to attend the execution in person.
