The Story
The World Health Organization has approved clinical trials for two new Ebola vaccine candidates, specifically ChAdOx1 BDBV developed by the University of Oxford with the Serum Institute of India, and Moderna's mRNA-1469.
World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced the recommendation from expert groups during a press briefing. The Democratic Republic of the Congo's National Institute for Biomedical Research is leading the trial with backing from the World Health Organization and other partners. The outbreak is driven by the rare Bundibugyo strain, for which no approved vaccine or specific treatment previously existed.
