Trump Showcases White House Helipad, Ballroom Construction Amid Funding Questions

President Donald Trump showcased the ongoing construction of a multimillion-dollar granite helipad and a new ballroom at the White House on Wednesday, inviting the press for a tour.

Trump signed a slab of the helipad on the South Lawn, stating it would be there for a long time and would impress foreign leaders like Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is expected to visit next month. Trump touted the use of granite over asphalt for the helipad, claiming granite will never leak. He also acknowledged his ballroom is a military component of the White House that will include bomb shelters.

The White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor, Stephen Miller, was featured in clips Trump posted on Truth Social for over two hours early Thursday. Questions persist regarding the funding for the helipad project. Trump stated Sikorsky, the manufacturer of the Marine One fleet, is paying for the $5 or $6 million cost, along with donations from numerous people, including me.

Lockheed Martin, Sikorsky's parent company, said its contribution was made to the National Park Service. The administration is making an urgent appeal to the Supreme Court to issue a stay on a court order halting most above-ground construction of the ballroom. Solicitor General John Sauer argued the project provides vital security features and a safe room for the Presidency, asserting its completion is required by national security.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation, which brought the case, described the administration's rhetoric as hyperbolic bluster, claiming Trump is racing to complete the project to outrun judicial review. Trump's right hand appeared discolored and swollen during his public appearances on Monday and Wednesday. The White House revealed last July that Trump suffers from chronic venous insufficiency.
