New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill has called for the resignation of Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell, giving him until Friday to step down following an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and workplace discrimination.

An independent investigation, conducted by a law firm hired by Sherrill's office, found serious, repeated violations of state policy by Caldwell, including substantiated findings of sexual harassment. Sherrill stated that Caldwell failed to uphold the responsibilities of his office and that his ethical lapses persisted despite multiple warnings and trainings. The report detailed allegations that Caldwell attempted to secure a state job promotion for his girlfriend, made a sexually charged comment to a staffer's friend, and brought uninvited guests to official events without proper reimbursement.

Caldwell, through his attorney, has denied the allegations, calling the investigation one-sided and lacking due process. Democratic Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim have joined Sherrill in calling for Caldwell's resignation. Caldwell was tapped by Sherrill as her running mate in 2025, sharing a commitment to public service. Sherrill stated that Caldwell's resignation is necessary and in the best interest of New Jersey residents.
