President Donald Trump officially announced the formation of the "Super Intelligence Force" (SIF) on Sunday in a Truth Social post, tasking it with ensuring American technological dominance in artificial intelligence.

Trump named Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton as the head of SIF, along with Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor as other leaders. The group will report to Trump and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. The SIF will coordinate federal government engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers, and AI companies.

Clayton stated that the task force has 120 days to produce a report assessing AI risks and opportunities, and recommending the federal government's role. Trump's announcement follows a White House Accord on Super Intelligence, where leading technology companies signed a nonbinding commitment to self-regulation, including partnering with external auditors for safety assessments. Trump refers to artificial intelligence as "Super Intelligence," describing it as bigger than the Industrial Revolution and the Internet.

He has advocated for a light touch approach to AI regulation, arguing that excessive oversight could hinder US competitiveness against China. Some researchers have warned that AI could pose existential threats, leading to calls for more action from lawmakers. Clayton, who was appointed intelligence chief in August, previously chaired the Securities and Exchange Commission.
