The Story
US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that "Massive Oil, Gas, and Mineral Exploration is getting ready to begin in our new and beautiful Greenland!"
Trump claimed experts say the amount of easily available oil in Greenland is far greater than that of almost. Anywhere in the World. He did not provide details of prospective American involvement. Trump also hailed Greenland's position as second to none for US and European security, stating any future attack on the United States would have to come across Greenland.
A few weeks ago, the US signed a security deal with the leaders of Greenland and Denmark after Trump threatened to take the territory by force. Greenland has untapped rare earth deposits and could be a critical player as melting polar ice opens new shipping routes. In August, media reports of a US oil company's preparatory operations in eastern Greenland caused unease among locals and authorities.
