This rally is part of Trump's campaign travel swing, which has included stops in other red states like Alabama, Oklahoma, and Ohio.

Early in-person voting in Nebraska begins on the day of the rally. Senator Ricketts, first elected in a special election in 2024, is facing a competitive general election matchup against independent candidate Dan Osborn. Recent polls show Ricketts and Osborn separated by only a few points. Osborn, a union steamfitter, ran a closer-than-expected race for Senate in 2024 against Senator Deb Fischer.

There is no Democrat on the ballot for Senate in Nebraska this year, as the primary winner withdrew, leading Democrats to rally behind Osborn. Osborn, however, insists he will not caucus with either party. Senator Ricketts has nicknamed his opponent "Democrat Dan," alleging Osborn is trying to mislead voters while planning to serve as a Democrat.

Max Oberg, deputy campaign manager for Ricketts, stated the senator looks forward to welcoming President Trump and working with him on issues such as year-round E15 for corn growers, banning stock trading by members of Congress, codifying ratepayer protections, and delivering a Farm Bill. The state Republican Party noted this is the first presidential visit to Grand Island in two decades.
