Trump Threatens FCC Action Against NBC Reporter Kristen Welker

President Donald Trump threatened to report NBC's "Meet the Press" host Kristen Welker to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for rebuke or punishment.

Trump made the threat in a Sunday morning Truth Social post, reacting to Welker's comment that his primary endorsements yielded mixed results. Trump insisted his endorsement record was "100% for the U.S. Senate, and 98% for the U.S. House, recently and over the longterm." Trump wrote, "How can anyone be allowed to say this, working for freely given Public Airwaves?"

He also posted, "I hope that Chairman Brendan Carr, and the fine people of his Commission, will take this Threat to our Country very seriously." Democratic FCC commissioner Anna Gomez described Trump's threat as dangerous. Former FCC chair Tom Wheeler expressed hope that the agency would stand up for free speech. Wheeler noted that current FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has previously acted as Trump's attack dog, citing instances like reviving a complaint against CBS in January 2025, urging action after Jimmy Kimmel's remarks in September, threatening broadcasters over Iran war coverage in March 2026, and ordering Disney's ABC stations to submit licenses for review in April.

Trump also posted on Truth Social about "THE FAKE POLLS USED BY OUR CROOKED MEDIA," calling for "FCC TO THE RESCUE!" Bill Maher publicly apologized on his show for overstating Trump's endorsement losses after receiving a text message from Trump. Maher stated only nine of 260 Trump-endorsed candidates lost, yielding a 97 percent success rate. Trump also attacked New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman, calling her an unattractive person both inside and out and "Maggot Haberman."
