Lindsay Clancy Murder Trial Ends in Mistrial After Hung Jury

A Plymouth County Superior Court judge declared a mistrial Friday in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy.

The decision followed 37 hours of jury deliberations over three first-degree murder charges in the deaths of her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. Jurors were unable to reach an unanimous verdict. Clancy admitted to strangling her three children in January 2023, with her defense arguing she suffered from postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible.

She attempted suicide after the killings, which left her a paraplegic. Reports indicate 11 jurors favored an insanity verdict, with one holdout. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington sought to remove the holdout juror, but courts declined. District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not announced whether prosecutors will pursue a retrial. Legal experts, including retired Superior Court judge Thomas Drechsler, describe finding impartial jurors for a potential retrial as a painstaking process, though possible.

Dr. Phil McGraw commented on the pretty clunky prosecution, stating there will be accountability and Clancy would likely live in a psychiatric facility. Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) rejected the defense's claims, calling it medicalizing evil and expressing not an ounce of sympathy for Lindsay Clancy. President Donald Trump called the killings a horrible, horrible thing and said Clancy would pay a price, suggesting a mental institution or jail or something.

Nancy Grace criticized Reddington's post-mistrial antics, stating he should have been held in contempt. A GoFundMe page for Clancy's parents received over $1 million in donations.
