Ukraine launched a major drone attack on the Moscow region overnight, with more than 650 drones targeting the area, marking what Russian state media described as the largest aerial assault on the Russian capital in two years.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that 650 drones flew toward the Moscow region between Monday evening and Tuesday morning, with 105 downed as they approached the city. Regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported that 185 drones were destroyed or neutralized over 16 municipalities in the wider region. The attack killed two people, a 20-year-old man in Radumlya and a 71-year-old man in Barybino, and injured nine others.

Forty-seven private homes, four apartments, and three cars were damaged across seven municipalities. A major Russian oil facility, the Volodarsk Linear Production and Dispatch Centre near Konstantinovo, was among the targets, with reports of a fire. War blogger Yuri Podolyaka said an oil storage tank was hit at the Volodarskaya oil storage and distribution facility, described as the biggest in the Moscow region and a key hub for fuel supply to Moscow's three large airports.

Russian aviation authorities temporarily restricted operations at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky airports for flight-safety reasons. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated Tuesday that Ukraine received updated intelligence on Russia's preparations for a massive strike and is preparing countermeasures.
