Russia Foils Ukrainian Plot Against British Ambassador in Moscow
The Story
Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) stated on Thursday it foiled an Ukrainian plot to carry out a false-flag attack targeting the British ambassador and other diplomats in Moscow.
The FSB said the plan was intended to draw the United Kingdom into direct conflict with Russia and secure additional weapons deliveries to Kiev. According to the agency, a Russian national working for an organization contracted to protect the British Embassy in Moscow was detained. This individual allegedly collected sensitive information about embassy security and personal data on diplomatic personnel, including photographs, home addresses, vehicle details, and itineraries, on instructions from an Ukrainian contact.
The FSB identified the suspect as having been recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and acting on instructions from Ukrainian blogger Dmitry Karpenko, also known as "Apostle Dmitry." Karpenko, 44, has been known for recording interviews with Russian prisoners of war and covering POW swaps. The UK Embassy in Moscow and British Ambassador Nigel Casey have not commented on the FSB statement.
Separately, on September 8-9, Ukraine's Defence Intelligence reported striking infrastructure at the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk, and local officials stated four people, including a child, were killed in Ukrainian drone attacks on the city.
