Passenger Arrested for Attempting to Open Emergency Exit Mid-Flight

A passenger was arrested on August 6 for allegedly attempting to open an emergency exit door on a Batik Airlines flight traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Kochi.

Jamsheer Athanikkal, a Palakkad native, is currently being interrogated by central and state intelligence agencies. Investigators are examining whether the incident was an attempt at sabotage. The case was registered on a complaint lodged by Batik Air's Security In-Charge at Kochi. The accused was arrested upon the flight's arrival early on Thursday, August 6. The FIR alleged that Athanikkal tried to force open the aircraft's emergency exit, damaged its window panel, and threatened fellow passengers, putting the safety of everyone on board at risk.

According to police, the passenger threatened fellow passengers and cabin crew. Jamsheer was seated in a window seat during the flight. The incident occurred while the aircraft was airborne. Authorities are examining the motive behind the actions. The flight was en route to Kochi from Kuala Lumpur. The passenger was arrested upon landing.
