Christiane Amanpour Leaving CNN After 43 Years
The Story
Christiane Amanpour, CNN's chief international anchor, will leave the network in June 2027 after 43 years.
She announced Monday that her daily show, "Amanpour," on CNN International will scale back to once a week at the beginning of 2027 and conclude in May. Amanpour, 68, will also end her PBS show, "Amanpour & Co.," at the end of the year. She plans to continue her podcast, "The Ex Files," with her ex-husband, Jamie Rubin.
Amanpour stated she looks forward to interesting new projects down the line and will always be rooting for CNN and maintaining its history of independent journalism. She added, "Remember: Always be truthful, not neutral." CNN CEO Mark Thompson wrote in a memo to staff that Amanpour's promise was not universally appreciated early in her career, with one boss telling her she did not have what it took for an on-air role.
Her departure coincides with CNN's new ownership under Skydance, following its $81 billion buyout of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6. Amanpour has previously spoken about her 2021 diagnosis of ovarian cancer and two later recurrences. She joined CNN as an assistant in 1983.
