Police Seek More Shooters in Virginia University Incident Wounding Five

The Story
Police are looking for additional people who fired guns in the Virginia State University shooting that wounded five individuals. Authorities are working to determine whether these additional shooters acted in self-defense or were among the aggressors. A 19-year-old man, Camron Harris of Henrico, Virginia, was arrested on Saturday, August 15, in connection with the shooting. Harris was found hiding in a closet inside Seward Hall, a campus dormitory, at approximately 4 p.m., more than 14 hours after the shooting. Harris is not a student at Virginia State University. Police obtained eight felony warrants for Harris: four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was taken to the Chesterfield County Jail and is being held without bond. Additional charges may be filed. The shooting occurred at approximately 1:28 a.m. Saturday near the university's residence halls. Officers responding to the scene found five people suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim, a 21-year-old man who is not a VSU student, remains in critical condition. The other four victims, ranging in age from 17 to 23, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Only one of the wounded, a 20-year-old, is a VSU student and has since been released from the hospital. The university initially warned of multiple suspects and placed the campus on lockdown. The lockdown was lifted after authorities determined there was no immediate threat to the university community. Chesterfield County Police are leading the investigation with assistance from agencies including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Police have not announced a motive for the shooting.
