Tesla will wind down production of its Cybertruck at its Gigafactory Texas facility around the middle of 2027 to accommodate increased production of its two-seat Cybercab robotaxi, CEO Elon Musk announced on Friday.

Musk did not clarify whether Cybertruck manufacturing would be relocated to another facility or discontinued entirely, though lead engineer Wes Morrill stated that the vehicle served as a technology development platform that lives on through the Cybercab. Unveiled in November 2019, the stainless-steel electric pickup experienced multiple delivery delays before launching in late 2023. The vehicle failed to reach Musk's initial sales projections of 250,000 units annually, with Cox Automotive estimating United States sales at 20,237 units in 2025, representing a 48 percent decline from the previous year.

The model also faced eleven safety recalls and numerous customer complaints. Musk reassured owners that the existing Cybertruck fleet will remain on roads for an extended period, describing the transition as the end of an era.
