President Trump defended his foreign policy and threatened to annihilate Iran during an address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

He stated he has a big decision to make regarding the ongoing war, which is approaching its eighth month. Trump accused Iran of seeking a nuclear weapon and predicted a deal to end the conflict would be reached right after the U.S. midterm elections in November, suggesting Iran was waiting for the election results. He also stated that he would not give credence to the election's outcome when it comes to Iran, emphasizing that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.

The president framed his approach to foreign policy as acting on decades of intractable challenges that previous leaders failed to address. He also criticized Cuba, calling it an absolutely failed state, which prompted the Cuban delegation to walk out of the assembly. Trump touted a military deal with Greenland and Denmark, stating it would provide the U.S. the ability to defend the American continent and Europe.

The speech occurred amid ongoing international conflicts, including the war in Ukraine and efforts to broker a peace plan for Gaza. The U.N. gathering also addressed concerns about artificial intelligence, climate change, and global economic instability.
