Police Arrest Imran Khan's Sister Aleema Khan in Lahore
The Story
Police arrested Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan's jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, at her house in Lahore.
A spokesperson from Imran Khan's political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), confirmed the arrest. Aleema Khan was detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance, a measure often used by authorities. She was subsequently taken to Kot Lakhpat jail and sent to jail for 30 days. The arrest occurred ahead of a planned protest march by the PTI, which is scheduled for September 27.
This march is a key event for the party, which is led by Imran Khan. PTI chairman Barrister Gohar condemned Aleema's detention, calling the move first step towards something (article cuts off). The PTI alleges Aleema Khan was arrested in Lahore. Separately, Imran Khan underwent a medical check-up at Adiala Jail on Sunday amid fresh health concerns.
Jail sources reported that a special team of doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) conducted a comprehensive medical examination of the former prime minister. Raja Nasir Abbas stated on September 19 that only Imran Khan can decide the fate of PTI's September 27 protest. This statement highlights the ongoing leadership dynamics within the party regarding the upcoming demonstration.
