Chiba Rain Disaster Death Toll Rises to 13, Over 2,300 Homes Flooded

The death toll from torrential rain that struck Chiba Prefecture last week has risen to 13 from 11.

Efforts continued in the prefecture to determine the extent of flood damage, with approximately 300 additional inundated homes confirmed since Monday afternoon. This brings the total number of flooded homes to about 2,300. The central government held its first ministerial meeting on the rain disaster on Tuesday. During the meeting, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi called for enhanced measures to mitigate flooding when heavy rainfall overwhelms urban drainage capacity.
