NATO Allies Condemn Russian Airspace Violations in Poland, Romania

NATO allies on Wednesday condemned recent airspace violations in Poland and Romania, holding Russia fully responsible for what they described as dangerous and unacceptable actions. The North Atlantic Council met in Brussels to discuss the violations and recent drone incidents, expressing full solidarity with the affected member states. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte stated that Russia bears full responsibility for the airspace violations, which he called dangerous and unacceptable, demonstrating Russia’s increasing tolerance for risk. NATO spokesperson Allison Hart confirmed allies expressed solidarity with Romania and Poland regarding the incursions and condemned Russia’s reckless actions. Romania’s president Nicușor Dan stated it is inadmissible and intolerable for the Kremlin to continue violating the country’s skies. A cruise missile crashed into Polish territory on July 29, which Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk clarified fell 50 kilometers from Lublin and was probably Russian. NATO stated it continues to strengthen its integrated air and missile defenses across the alliance, particularly along its eastern flank from the Baltic to the Black Sea, and stands ready to deter and defend against any aggression. Allies also reaffirmed their support for Ukraine’s freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, adding that Russian airspace violations would not deter NATO members from maintaining their commitment to Ukraine.
