Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Thursday called for the removal of a satirical statue of U.S. President Donald Trump from the European Parliament, describing it as a sign of the decline of the entire European Union.

Fico stated on X that insulting partners on official premises demonstrates a profound failure to understand the times. He questioned whether the Parliament would tolerate similar depictions of the French president or German chancellor. The 2.6-meter sculpture, titled "The Orange Plague," was unveiled Tuesday by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt in the Parliament building in Strasbourg.

It depicts a nude, gold-leaf-covered Trump perched on a frail man's shoulders, holding a golf club and scales of justice. Danish left-wing MEP Per Clausen, who invited Galschiøt, defended the installation, stating that if someone is thin-skinned about it, they have no place on the world stage. The statue stands at the entrance to Parliament's Winston Churchill building. Visitors received miniature replicas. The sculpture is covered in 23-karat gold leaf and is set to be taken down on October 8.
