US Forces on Track to Exit Iraq by September 30

US forces are on track to complete their troop withdrawal from Iraq by September 30.

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi stated that the country will be free of any foreign military presence on its soil by October 1. Zaidi also announced that weapons will be solely under state control by October 1. During a meeting with US Central Command Commander Charles Brad Cooper, Prime Minister Zaidi affirmed the commitment to the agreed-upon timelines for the international coalition’s military mission in Iraq and the withdrawal of its forces by September 30.

He added that October 1 will mark a new day in the history of the Iraqi state, as the country will be responsible for ensuring its own security and stability. Zaidi further stated that state institutions holding weapons will strengthen the state’s authority and sovereignty, and guarantee security and stability.
