Imran Khan's Sister Files Contempt Plea Over Denied Family Meetings

Dr. Uzma Khan, sister of incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan, filed a contempt plea in the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

The plea accuses government functionaries, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of violating the court’s August 18 interim order. That order directed authorities to facilitate weekly meetings between Imran Khan and his family members, and twice-weekly phone calls with his sons. Dr. Uzma maintains that Imran Khan has not been allowed to meet family members or speak to his sons by phone.

This is Dr. Uzma's second contempt plea related to the August 18 order; she previously approached the court on August 22 regarding Imran Khan's transfer to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) instead of Shifa International Hospital for a medical check-up. The second plea names Islamabad Chief Commissioner (retired) Lieutenant Sohail Ashraf, Interior Secretary Ahmed Raza Sarwar, Punjab Inspector General Prisons Mian Salik Jalal, Adiala Jail Superintendent Sajid Baig, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as respondents.

The superintendent of Adiala Jail was specifically directed to ensure Bushra Bibi was not kept in solitary confinement and to submit an implementation report within 15 days. A journalist claimed Imran Khan was moved from his barrack to the jail superintendent's residence around August 2, with Bushra Bibi also staying there or having full access.
