Trump Claims Massive Greenland Exploration; Official Says 'Far Away'

Trump's announcement on his Truth Social platform followed a September security agreement between the U.S., Denmark, and Greenland, which expanded the U.S. military's role and paved the way for two new military bases.

Previous efforts to extract oil, gas, and rare earth minerals in Greenland have not progressed beyond the exploratory stage due to the harsh climate, lack of infrastructure, and difficult geology. Reports in August of a U.S. oil company preparing operations in eastern Greenland had previously caused unease among residents and local authorities. The September agreement reaffirmed Danish sovereignty and Greenlanders' right to self-determination.
