Prosecutor Reveals New Evidence in Karmelo Anthony Murder Case

Collin County Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye presented evidence in court that the jury in Karmelo Anthony's murder trial never saw.

This evidence includes a statement from an ex-girlfriend who told a school assistant principal on April 2, 2025, that Anthony had been stalking her and was obsessed with guns and knives. Hours before he stabbed Austin Metcalf to death, Anthony sent her a photo of the knife along with the statement, "I’m low-key on the verge."

Wirskye stated Anthony was spiraling. The texts and stalking claim were not introduced during the trial as part of an agreement between the prosecution and defense to focus solely on the events of the stabbing day. This deal also meant Metcalf's prior behavior, including a juvenile record with vile racist stuff, was not admitted to prevent racial tensions.

Anthony has appealed the conviction, and his attorneys argue the original judge should be removed from his case. Prosecutor Wirskye also found that Anthony had told people he had a fascination with stabbing someone to death and licking the victim’s blood off the blade. Prosecutors found racist hate on Anthony’s laptop, including attacks on blacks, whites, and Mexicans, along with photos of him holding guns.

Anthony's legal team scored a victory when State District Judge John Roach Jr. was removed from the appeals process ahead of a Thursday hearing on the request for a new trial. The defense motion seeking to recuse Judge Roach questioned his impartiality and courtroom restrictions, citing problematic comments he made in an interview after the verdict.
