Akali Dal Backs Women's Quota Bill, Demands Immediate Implementation

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has declared its support for the Women's Reservation Bill and called for its immediate implementation.

This stance was articulated by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal following a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The party's backing of the bill, alongside support for delimitation measures, has fueled speculation about a potential electoral alliance between the SAD and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab. Badal announced the party's position on X, formerly Twitter, after the meeting with Modi.

The SAD's senior leaders had convened in Chandigarh to discuss the party's stance on these legislative matters. P Chidambaram stated that women's reservation has been mischievously linked to Delimitation and called statements by Rijiju absolutely wrong, with Rahul Gandhi backing this position. The SAD's position comes as the party holds one Lok Sabha MP.
