Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar died of cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa on Thursday morning at 75.

He was found unconscious at his home in Dona Paula and declared dead at 5:20 am after 45 minutes of CPR failed to revive him, according to Manipal Hospital. His mortal remains were flown to Pune by air ambulance for his funeral, which was scheduled to take place with full state honors at his farmhouse in Donje village, Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar announced the state funeral in recognition of Patekar's contribution to theatre and cinema. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid his last respects to the actor at Pune Airport. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led tributes, praising Patekar's versatility and outspoken personality, stating his death left a vast void in the artistic world.

President Murmu and Vice President Radhakrishnan also mourned his death. Patekar was known for his intense performances and was a prominent figure in Marathi language cinema and theatre. He was a recipient of three National Film Awards, several Filmfare Awards, the Maharashtra State Film Award, and Filmfare Awards Marathi. He had also received Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian honor. Patekar's career spanned nearly five decades in Hindi and Marathi cinema, with roles in films like "Parinda" (1989), "Krantiveer" (1994), and "Natsamrat" (2016).
