Yogi Adityanath Slams Rahul Gandhi Over Manusmriti Remarks

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday, August 24, 2026, targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Manusmriti.

Adityanath stated that Gandhi considers it his birthright to denounce India's traditions and heritage. Speaking at an event in Raebareli, Gandhi's Lok Sabha constituency, Adityanath accused Gandhi of defaming Uttar Pradesh and insulting India when traveling abroad. He also questioned Gandhi's commitment to democracy, referencing the 1975 Emergency and Gandhi's stance on issues like the Indian Army's actions and the existence of Lord Ram in Ayodhya.

Adityanath suggested Gandhi read ancient Hindu texts like the Atharvaveda to understand Manu. Gandhi had previously criticized the "Manusmriti mindset" during an interaction with students in Maharashtra on Saturday, August 22, 2026. He urged students to smash patriarchy and stated that women belong to themselves, not to their fathers, husbands, or sons, calling the Manusmriti's prescription for women's dependence shameful. Adityanath also asked Gandhi why he wanted to ruin India's future through 'Urban Naxals'.
