President Donald Trump has privately voiced reservations about livestreaming the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, according to reports.

Trump has indicated the public broadcast might not happen and has been seeking opinions from advisers and lawmakers. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced last week that Americans would be able to watch Hasan's December 3 execution by firing squad, stating "People need to understand there are serious consequences for these types of things." The announcement drew swift condemnation from Democrats and some Republicans, who called the plan medieval and disgusting.

House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed concerns that the video could become a recruiting tool for future terrorists. He was left partially paralyzed after being shot by police during the 2009 attack. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin defended the plan, stating it was part of restoring American values and that no one has to watch it.

Pope Leo has condemned capital punishment, calling it an attack on human dignity, and senior Catholic officials have also criticized the plan as unacceptable to turn death into a spectacle.
