An Iranian commercial vessel was struck by an unknown projectile near Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz late Saturday, killing one person and wounding four others, according to Iranian state media.

Iranian state-run IRNA news agency quoted the Qeshm governor as blaming a terrorist enemy for the attack. The incident occurred as Iran prepares to meet with regional leaders in Oman's capital, Muscat, on Monday to sign an agreement establishing an Iran-Oman shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that this agreement would not lead to the reopening of the waterway, which he said is conditional on the U.S. honoring its commitments under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in Islamabad.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian previously stated that Iran would not surrender and had resisted aggression from the U.S. and Israel. U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that military action against Iran had prevented it from attacking Israel and the Middle East. U.S. Central Command reported destroying 10 Iranian tankers the preceding week.
