Federal agents raided Representative Ilhan Omar's Washington, D.C., home on Monday morning as part of an ongoing federal criminal immigration investigation.

Agents seized her cellphone, notebooks, personal computers, and passport during the search. Authorities also issued more than a dozen grand jury subpoenas, including to her sister Sahra Noor and other relatives. US Magistrate Judge Matthew Sharbaugh approved the search warrant but restricted how the Justice Department could access seized records, requiring a screening process to protect Omar’s legislative work.

The investigation centers on allegations that Omar or her late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, misstated her age on immigration paperwork when she obtained U.S. citizenship in 2000. If Omar was 18 rather than 17 when her father was naturalized, she would have needed a separate citizenship application. Investigators are also examining unsubstantiated claims that Omar’s former husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, is her brother and that she married him to help him obtain citizenship.

Multiple media outlets report the probe's ultimate goal is to strip Omar of her U.S. citizenship and deport her to Somalia. Omar's spokesperson, Jackie Rogers, called the action politically motivated and an authoritarian move to silence an opponent. President Donald Trump has repeatedly targeted Omar, encouraging rally crowds to chant for her deportation and reviving claims about her family.

US Attorney Jeanine Pirro stated her office has opened a financial investigation into Omar's financial disclosures. Omar's husband, Tim Mynett, was confronted by a reporter on Wednesday evening outside their home about rumors that Omar had fled the country, but he did not address the rumors. Omar has not been seen since the raid. Representative Delia Ramirez introduced a bill on Tuesday to abolish the Department of Homeland Security, stating that if federal agents can do this to a colleague, they can do it to anyone. Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized the Trump administration's investigation into Omar as bulls---.
