Israeli Strikes Kill 12, Including Children and Medics, in Southern Lebanon

The Story

Israeli strikes on a southern Lebanese village early Monday killed at least 12 people, including two children and four women, Lebanon's Health Ministry said. One strike destroyed a three-storey residential building in Kfar Rumman, killing 11 people. A separate drone strike on a vehicle in the same town killed two paramedics, Ali Shahrour and Hadi Farhat, who worked for the Islamic Scout Association. Eight people were wounded, including three children and a paramedic. The Israeli military stated it struck Hezbollah infrastructure sites and several terrorists transferring weapons, in retaliation for two Hezbollah drone attacks targeting Israeli troops in Lebanon on Monday. Israel's military also issued an evacuation warning before striking a building in Deir al-Zahrani, which it said was a Hezbollah facility. However, Israel did not issue an evacuation warning before the strikes on Kfar Rumman. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned Israel's repeated attacks, stating they undermine efforts to prevent further escalation and jeopardize June's US-brokered ceasefire. He urged the international community to pressure Israel to stop the attacks. These latest strikes follow an intensification of Israeli bombardment in southern Lebanon in recent days. Israeli attacks killed at least 27 people over the past three days, according to the health ministry, including at least seven people on Sunday. The June ceasefire was intended to halt fighting between the Israeli military and Hezbollah. Hezbollah has not claimed the drone attacks or issued a statement on the intensifying strikes. The conflict began on March 2, with Hezbollah launching attacks on Israel in retaliation for the killing of Iran's supreme leader and alleged Israeli ceasefire violations. Lebanon's health ministry reported 4,362 people killed and 12,378 wounded since the conflict began.
