Former Envoys Urge Joint French, UK Action on Palestinian Territories

Over 100 former British and French diplomats have urged their governments to impose sweeping sanctions on Israel, warning that "Palestine is being erased before our eyes."

In a joint letter published in Le Monde on Saturday, the former envoys called for an arms embargo, a ban on settlement trade, and the suspension of EU and U.K. trade deals with Israel. They stated that France and the United Kingdom, having played a decisive role in the shaping of the Middle East, have a responsibility to make common cause over the region's fundamental faultline: equal rights for Israelis and Palestinians.

The letter describes two million Palestinians in Gaza being kettled into 30% of their devastated land, hungry, lacking medicine and housing, with over 1,200 Palestinians killed since the October 2025 ceasefire. It also details Palestinian house demolitions and settler violence in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, characterizing it as ethnic cleansing and noting that this policy extends to Lebanon and Syria. Violence in the West Bank has surged since the Gaza war began, raising international concern over the conduct of Israeli troops and settlers.
