Telangana Minister Konda Surekha Removed From Cabinet After Daughter's Remarks

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy removed Forest and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha from his cabinet on September 3, 2026, following a disciplinary row.

The action was recommended to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla after the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) disciplinary committee proposed the removal. The dispute began with remarks made by Surekha's daughter, Konda Sushmitha Patel, against Revanth Reddy at a public function in August. The TPCC disciplinary committee had issued Surekha a show-cause notice on August 20 regarding her daughter's criticism.

Surekha stated she was not consulted before her removal and questioned why she was being punished for her daughter's comments, asserting her daughter was an independent woman. She also questioned the removal of G Chinna Reddy, former vice-chairman of the Telangana Planning Board, who also faced a show-cause notice for alleged comments about a party ticket purchase.

Surekha expressed that she had not committed corruption and had replied to the show-cause notices. She also questioned the authenticity of an unsigned communication announcing her removal, suggesting it was an act of vendetta. Surekha affirmed her commitment to remaining in the Congress party and continuing as an MLA. She claimed that many within the party shared her grievances but were afraid to voice them.

Nerella Sharada was appointed chairperson of the Telangana State Commission for Women, and G Sudha Rani was appointed chairperson of the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority.
