Turkey Rejects Israeli Claims After Syria Air Base Strikes

Turkey on Wednesday rejected what it called untenable allegations by Israel concerning its military position in Syria.

The rejection followed Israeli airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur air base near Aleppo on Tuesday. Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office stated that Syria was close to violating a security status quo by allowing Turkish troops to deploy at the airbase, which it claimed would threaten Israeli security. Turkey's presidency responded that these imputations were intended to legitimize Israel's airstrikes and stemmed from expansionist policies ahead of Israeli elections.

Turkey affirmed its commitment to cooperating with the Syrian government for peace and stability, stating it would not permit Syria's destabilization. The strikes occurred amid worsening security tensions and sharp rhetoric between Turkey and Israel over their military activities in Syria.
