President Donald Trump announced a new AI task force and plans to appoint an "AI czar" to lead it.

Trump described the AI czar as having a high IQ and dismissed fears about artificial intelligence as a hoax. He stated that his administration will not hinder the growth of the AI industry, which he views as paramount to America's power. Trump wrote on Truth Social that his administration will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows, adding that they will also be looking for BAD, and they can do that, very easily, with their already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System.

This would be Trump's second AI czar; venture capitalist David Sacks previously held the role before stepping down in the spring and moving to an external advisory position. Sacks has echoed Trump's skepticism of new AI regulation, stating that developers should be responsible for product safety and liable for problems. Trump's comments come as concerns about AI technology are rising in Washington among lawmakers and industry leaders.

Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon said that people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill them all by the end of the decade. OpenAI's Sam Altman and Trump donor Elon Musk have backed Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's call to slow down generative AI development, with Amodei warning the technology could become uncontrollable without sufficient checks.

Trump, however, likened the "AI hoax" to the "RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA HOAX" and the "Global Warming Scam," blaming "Radical Left Dumocrats" for the fears. Some Republican donors have expressed concern over Trump's dismissal of AI fears, with one anonymous donor telling Politico that "While AI may not kill us all, it might kill vulnerable Republicans this year."

Another GOP donor stated that Trump needed to be more empathetic to the issues that were raised, the concerns and anxieties they provoked amongst American people. Trump's announcement of an "AI Force" is modeled on the Space Force he created in his first term.
