North Korea launched multiple ballistic missiles toward the sea off its eastern coast on Monday, according to South Korea's military.

The launches followed South Korea's hypersonic missile test on October 8. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff detected the launches around 9:20 a.m. from the Pyongyang area, with at least one missile traveling more than 900 kilometers. U.S. Pacific Command stated North Korea launched two ballistic missiles and that the event posed no immediate threat to the United States or its allies, reaffirming a commitment to regional defense.

Japan's Defense Ministry detected at least two missiles launched 17 minutes apart, with one traveling over 910 kilometers on an irregular trajectory. South Korea's National Security Office condemned the tests as violations of UN Security Council resolutions and called for an immediate stop. North Korea has conducted more than 10 missile tests this year, including four in the past month, amid ongoing weapons development and competing military demonstrations with South Korea.

The launches have renewed concerns about military tensions on the Korean Peninsula. South Korea's foreign ministry also condemned the launches as a grave act violating UN resolutions. The U.S. and Japan reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea during high-level talks in Tokyo. South Korea's top envoy to the U.S. acknowledged limitations in high-level communication with the White House amid concerns over bilateral intelligence cooperation friction.
