USS Abraham Lincoln Docks in Pattaya, Thailand After Middle East Deployment
The Story
The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln will dock in Thailand's resort city of Pattaya this week, following a long deployment in the Middle East.
The Abraham Lincoln, accompanied by two other Navy vessels, is scheduled to dock on Wednesday at nearby Laem Chabang. Nearly 5,000 sailors and Marines aboard will disembark to rest and recuperate after more than 200 days at sea, according to Thai officials. The visit is expected to provide an economic boost for Pattaya. In anticipation of the arrival, local authorities are implementing a crackdown on parts of the city's sex tourism industry.
Police are also preparing additional security measures for the visit. The USS Abraham Lincoln previously sailed past Singapore on its way home from the Middle East.
