Trump Announces "Crushing Economic Operation" Against Iran

US President Donald Trump pledged economic warfare against Iran and threatened any country that trades with it on Thursday.

Trump announced the MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY! in a Truth Social post, stating it would be "Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale." He warned that "ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences."

Trump identified oil smuggling, currency swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and front companies as channels to be shut down immediately, calling this an "ECONOMIC D-DAY." He urged allies to stand with the US to isolate and defeat the Iran threat. Trump claimed Iran's navy, air force, and military production facilities have been destroyed, its currency rendered worthless, and the regime is hanging by a thread.

He asserted Iran failed to take opportunities for a deal. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed the plan on Thursday as a continuation of failed policies, which he said would bring Washington further defeat. Araghchi posted on X that the so-called 'Economic D-Day' is a diversion from America's own crisis: unprecedented debt & surging interest costs.

He accused the US of economic terrorism threatening the global economy and sovereignty. The war between the US and Israel and Iran, started in February, appears stalemated, with peace talks stalled. Tehran keeps the Strait of Hormuz shut, and Washington persists with a naval counter-blockade. This announcement extends Operation Economic Fury, a pressure campaign waged since April.

Iran's GDP contracted by 2.7% in the year ending March, and inflation surged to 62.2% in February. Over 750 US military members have been injured and 18 killed since the Iran war began.
